And if there's no news, I'll go out and bite a dog." or "I don't pray. Kneeling bags my nylons" i first read about the film in danny peary's guide to the film fanatic under the title 'the big carnival'. i believe peary's entry on the film stated that the film was a commercial failure and it was not looked on favorably by director wilder. too bad because it's great. i’m a big noir fan and this film which i caught again recently on tcm is a minor classic. great dialogue! lines like-
